Hundreds of marchers took to the city streets yesterday to mark International Quds Day, an annual march on the last Friday of Ramadaan to express solidarity with the Palestinian people. The day was declared in August 1979 by the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Khomeini, who called on Muslims around the world to hold street rallies on the day.
