Time for sweet talk
WITH the Health Department pushing ahead with proposed taxes on sugar-sweetened beverages, the public has been invited to add its voice.
The Treasury yesterday launched a public participation period, calling on people to comment on whether the sugar tax should be implemented.
Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan first announced the plan targeting beverages when he made his Budget speech in February.
It was reported at the time that this could bolster the government’s coffers by an extra R7 billion annually.
