Po­lice raids net arms, ammo, sus­pects

PO­LICE this week ar­rested a high­rank­ing Afrikaner Weer­stands­be­weg­ing (AWB) mem­ber, and what they de­scribed as “an as­so­ciate” dur­ing raids in Gaut­eng.

The 48-year-old man, who Hawks spokesman Brigadier Hang­wani Mu­laudzi de­scribed as a “the leader of the AWB in the Vaal” was ar­rested at a house in Van­der­bi­jl­park.

He was in pos­ses­sion of two ri­fles, two shot­guns, two pis­tols and 2 136 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion.

On Thurs­day po­lice con­fis­cated 306 rounds am­mu­ni­tion and a ri­fle at a res­i­dence in Vereenig­ing. Dur­ing a sec­ond raid, they ar­rested a 42-yearold man and re­cov­ered nine ri­fles and three pis­tols in Van­der­bi­jl­park. – Week­end Ar­gus Reporter
