ON JULY 2, we published an article which looked at candidates for the public protector position and in the case of nominee Riaz Salojee, who we highlighted, published information unrelated to him, with a photograph of him. Salojee is neither the CEO of Denel nor was he in any way linked to the Gupta family. He is, in fact, a former Western Cape provincial head of Lawyers for Human Rights and a regional and provincial director of the Independent Complaints Directorate. Following his studies at Wits, he worked for I Ayob & Partners and Priscilla Jana & Associates, and represented activists, members of political organisations and ordinary people, mostly from disadvantaged communities and engaged in extraparliamentary politics. He is now a practising attorney.
