AMID the mad­ness of the 2010 Soc­cer World Cup I Love You, You’re Per­fect, Now Change was at the Masque Theatre and Kalk Bay Theatre.

This wacky, quirky and stylish rom-com mu­si­cal is now at Theatre on the Bay from Wed­nes­day un­til Au­gust 6. It stars Claire Tay­lor, Neels Clasen, Bran­don Lind­say and Taryn-Lee Hud­son, ac­com­pa­nied by pi­ano and vi­o­lin un­der the mu­si­cal di­rec­tion of Wes­sel Oden­daal. Mu­si­cal stag­ing is by Ti­mothy le Roux.

It’s six years af­ter its first Cape stag­ing and a new pro­duc­tion, with a fresh cast and de­sign but the same ter­rific di­a­logue and mu­sic which has made the show (first staged in the US in 1996) the sec­ond- long­est- run­ning Off- Broad­way mu­si­cal. Tony Award win­ner Joe DiPi­etro wrote the book, with mu­sic by Jimmy Roberts. DiPi­etro has also de­signed the 2010 run. This time, he does not per­form, but is the pro­ducer (VRG pro­duc­tions). It is a show close to his heart. In 2010 Grif­fin’s team was com­prised of emerg­ing per­form­ers in­tent on gen­er­at­ing and pro­duc­ing their own work. I had to be dragged to see it.
