The hearings are meant to address a number of issues, including “whether police recruitment is sufficient to meet replacement requirements within the Western Cape”.
The hearings were also to understand why vacancies and manpower shortages existed, and what measures had been taken to remedy the situation.
Locals would be able to speak to the committee at the hearings. The police, community safety forums, government departments, police union and academics were also scheduled to present submissions.
