Husab ura­nium mine set to boost Namibia

GABORONE: Pro­duc­tion at Swakop Ura­nium’s Husab mine in Namibia is to be­gin this month. The com­pany’s chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer, Zheng Keping, said the Husab mine pro­duc­tion would make Namibia the third big­gest pro­ducer of ura­nium in the world.

The com­pany has said it would pro­duce up to 15 mil­lion tons of ura­nium per an­num. Pro­duc­tion would be grad­u­ally in­creased to reach 50 mil­lion tons of ore a year.

Keping said the com­pany would con­tinue co-oper­at­ing with min­ers Ross­ing Ura­nium and Langer Hein­rich.
