“Running 16km is a challenging distance for me, and each country has been different. In New Zealand I faced a strong headwind for the last 8km.

“In Papa New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, the intense heat and humidity slowed me down.

“I see each run as being a metaphor for life: sometimes there are difficult, challenging moments that we face and have to navigate our way through.”

McFarlane will head next to East Timor, Indonesia, Malay- sia, Sri Lanka and India on her Project Bra campaign, which will keep her away from home for three years.
