CNN fires commentator and president supporter, Lord

Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition) - - FRONT PAGE -

WASHINGTON: Jeffrey Lord, a political commentator and supporter of US President Donald Trump, has been fired by CNN after he used a Nazi salute in a tweet to a liberal activist.

“Nazi salutes are inde- fensible. Jeffrey Lord is no longer with the network,” CNN said.

In interviews after the firing Lord said his tweet, directed at activist Angelo Carusone, was misunderstood.

“I am mocking people who are using bully tactics in the style of fascists and Nazis to take people off the air and I am the one who gets taken off the air,” he said.

Lord joined CNN in July 2015 as a paid pro-Trump contributor.

Trump, who had just launched his, ultimately successful, presidential campaign at the time, suggested Lord as a commentator to the network and CNN said it already had been looking at Lord for a role. – dpa
