WHAT’S in a name? Well quite a lot if you’re looking at the names of spots in some adrenaline sports. From mountain biking to snow sports to surfing, you move through a contorted minefield of meaning from the fearsome to the fanciful.
Of course surfing has some of the most descriptive in terms of a sense of foreboding or danger, like Suicides, Graveyards and Bone Yards on the North Shore. Of course you get a bit of extra thrown in because surf spots always seem to be plural.
