A YOUNG boy from Midrand set the internet on fire with his performance at the Riebeeck Park Primary School revue, Riebies Diner, last month.

Joshua Ziervogel is an eightyear-old pupil at Riebeeck Park Primary who has captivated the public with his Elvis Presleyinspired dancing and has blown up on social media after Frans Swart, producer of Lefra Productions’ REVUE 2018 in Carnival City, shared a video of him performing on Facebook.

“When I saw the boy singing, dancing and acting I immediately realised that a new star was born here in South Africa. It was surprising to see how the public reacted to him, and then I realised that my judgment abilities have not let me down. You have to see him on the stage to really appreciate his talent,” Swart said.

The video gained more than 50 000 views on Facebook within a day of being shared and more than 300 000 people have seen it up till now.

Joshua’s parents are extremely proud of their little performer.

His mother, Marna Ziervogel, said: “Joshua first began singing in the Riebeeck Park Primary School choir last year. This year, he was chosen to perform in the revue, and that’s where it all began.”

According to Ziervogel, the family had no idea that Joshua had become internet-famous, at first. “We’ve all sung in choirs, but none of us are performers quite like Joshua. It’s a very interesting time in our lives. We’re not on social media very often, so many of our old friends had contacted us and told us what was happening,” she said.

The video of Joshua performing has since been shared to YouTube, where it has had more than 2 000 views.
