‘The aim of this

The plates are being introduced soon. In a message on the school’s website, Amin said:

“The aim of the scheme is to promote cycling as healthy, fun and a means of transport.

“We were informed last week that one of our students was involved in a collision between their bicycle and a car, fortunately one which did not involve injury – but this has been a timely reminder that action is necessary.”

The school said in a statement: “The aim of this initiative is simply to ensure their safety as they travel to and from school.”

Cycling UK attacked the move, claiming Amin’s stance “seems to be part of a trend of headteachers trespassing on parental responsibilities”.

The charity’s Duncan Dollimore said it “could have a negative effect” on the number of children who cycle to school. – Daily Mail
