Elderly man critically injured in crash
AN ACCIDENT between two cars and a truck on the N1 near Plattekloof on Friday, left one man critically injured.
Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson, said paramedics and fire services attended the scene, where they found all three of the vehicles in the middle of the road.
“Several people were found walking around the vehicles. Upon closer inspection, paramedics found one man lying trapped inside one of the vehicles. The man was found in a critical condition. Rescue services had to use specialised equipment to free the man from the vehicle.”
Upon freeing him, paramedics treated the 71-year-old man and performed advanced life support interventions.
He was later transported to a nearby hospital. Kenny Africa, provincial traffic chief, said they held a traffic blitz across the Cape on Friday where 1 420 vehicles were stopped and 1 278 drivers were tested for alcohol. Three drivers were arrested for drunk driving.
There were 154 fines issued.
