Kroon­stad crash cul­pa­ble homi­cide case

PO­LICE have opened a case of cul­pa­ble homi­cide into a train crash in Kroon­stad, Free State, on Thurs­day where a truck driver col­lided with a pas­sen­ger train killing at least 19 peo­ple and in­jur­ing many oth­ers.



that the driver al­legedly erred by try­ing to cross the tracks ahead of the on­com­ing train. Part of the train burst into flames after the col­li­sion, trap­ping some pas­sen­gers in car­riages.

A final death toll can­not be an­nounced un­til a foren­sic in­ves­ti­ga­tion in­clud­ing DNA test­ing is com­plete.

The lat­est death toll is 19. Many pas­sen­gers were also in­jured dur­ing the col­li­sion.

Prasa has an­nounced a 24-hour call cen­tre for en­quiries about miss­ing loved ones.
