3 hurt in cashin-transit heist
THREE security guards were robbed of their firearms and an undisclosed amount of cash during a cash-in-transit heist in Brackenfell on Friday evening.
According to ER24’s Russel Meiring, the incident took place at the intersection of Darwin and Hill roads.
“ER24 paramedics, with the Metro fire services, arrived on the scene at 7.30pm to find the wrecked cash-in-transit vehicle in the left-hand lane of the road. The vehicle had been completely blown open. Paramedics found the three male security officers seated on the side of the road.”
He said the men had minor injuries and were visibly shaken. They were treated at a hospital.
“Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.”
National police spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidoo said the SAPS had no records of injuries. He said the incident took place on Friday between 7pm and 7.30pm when gunmen opened fire at the cash-in-transit vehicle, which resulted in it veering off the road. No arrests have been made.
