3 hurt in cashin-tran­sit heist

THREE se­cu­rity guards were robbed of their firearms and an undis­closed amount of cash dur­ing a cash-in-tran­sit heist in Brack­en­fell on Fri­day evening.

Ac­cord­ing to ER24’s Rus­sel Meir­ing, the in­ci­dent took place at the in­ter­sec­tion of Dar­win and Hill roads.

“ER24 paramedics, with the Metro fire ser­vices, ar­rived on the scene at 7.30pm to find the wrecked cash-in-tran­sit ve­hi­cle in the left-hand lane of the road. The ve­hi­cle had been com­pletely blown open. Paramedics found the three male se­cu­rity of­fi­cers seated on the side of the road.”

He said the men had mi­nor in­juries and were vis­i­bly shaken. They were treated at a hospi­tal.

“Lo­cal au­thor­i­ties were on the scene for fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tions.”

Na­tional po­lice spokesper­son Bri­gadier Vish Naidoo said the SAPS had no records of in­juries. He said the in­ci­dent took place on Fri­day be­tween 7pm and 7.30pm when gun­men opened fire at the cash-in-tran­sit ve­hi­cle, which re­sulted in it veer­ing off the road. No ar­rests have been made.
