Bus plunge: huge toll

Weekend Argus (Sunday Edition) - - WORLD -

MUMBAI: More than 30 people were feared dead after a bus fell into a deep gorge in western India.

Civil administrator Vijay Suryawanshi said a bus carrying 34 employees of an agricultural university plunged off a mountain road yesterday, while negotiating a curve in the Raigad district of Maharashtra state. He added that one man survived as he had jumped out of the bus and climbed up to the road to tell university officials about the accident.

The employees had been on a private picnic.

So far, rescue teams have recovered nearly a dozen bodies amid intermittent rain.
