Metro police issue fines in Uitenhage

Weekend Post (South Africa) - - NEWS -

AN early-morning special operation by Nelson Mandela Bay’s metro police force saw fines worth R21 000 issued in Uitenhage’s KwaNobuhle yesterday.

The fines, issued over a two-hour period, were for overloaded vehicles, unlawful scholar transport and unroadworthy vehicles.

The municipality’s political head of safety and security, councillor John Best, said: “The special operation is a continuation of our sustained efforts to rid our roads of lawlessness and traffic law violations.

“Our ghost squad is also operating in 24-hour shifts, which means law enforcement on our roads takes place on a continuous basis that should ultimately be for the benefit of all law-abiding citizens.”

He said he was confident their hard work would bear fruit. – Weekend Post reporter
