Opera diva Mimi to be at MTR Smit spring tea

THE MTR Smit Chil­dren’s Haven is bring­ing South African vet­eran opera singer Mimi Co­ertse to its spring tea, to be held at the NG Kragga Kamma Com­mu­nity Church in Sun­ridge Park on Fri­day Septem­ber 1.

The haven holds an an­nual spring tea, host­ing well-known guest speak­ers, to raise funds to main­tain the fa­cil­ity. Opera diva Co­ertse will give a talk at the event. “MTR Smit is a reg­is­tered NPO and we pro­vide a home to 93 chil­dren, aged be­tween eight and 13, who have been re­moved from parental care be­cause their well-be­ing was at risk,” MTR Smit Chil­dren’s Haven di­rec­tor Tanya Eales said.

The home caters for chil­dren who have been ex­posed to risk fac­tors rang­ing from se­vere ne­glect and abuse to aban­don­ment.

The tea, which will be­gin at 10am and run into the af­ter­noon, will in­clude a fash­ion show by Xtreme Mod­els, an auc­tion, lucky draws and mu­sic.
