ARTWORKS for Youth is opening its Partners Exhibition at the GFI Art Gallery in Park Drive, Central today. The exhibition consists of a variety of creations by pupils from schools in Joe Slovo Township. The youngsters teamed up with established artists in the city and the results of these mentorships are being shown at the gallery from 10.30am today.

US artist John Lombardo, who established Artworks for Youth as a non-profit organisation about 15 years ago, said 24 pairs of artists and students collaborated as part of the project.

The works will be auctioned on Wednesday to raise funds for new premises in Joe Slovo for Artworks for Youth. Today’s event is open to all and Lombardo said the students’ parents would also be there to see their work up on the walls and beautifully framed.

“People must not think they have to buy a piece to come. We just want them to come and see how good the work is, because it is good,” Lombardo said.
