Weekend Post (South Africa) - - News - Gareth Wilson

A motorbike rider died in an accident on the N2 near the Cotswold Bridge at about 5am on Friday.

According to police, the biker, Darren Britton, 30, was riding with another biker when the accident happened.

Police spokesperson Captain Johan Rheeder said Britton had veered off the road and struck a pole.

“The deceased [Britton] was riding his bike and his friend was riding behind him,” he said.

“According to the witness, the driver of the bike lost control, veered off the road and hit a pole,” he said.

“The friend stopped and went to assist. However, the rider died on the scene.”

Rheeder said the road had been partly closed while rescue workers and police were on the scene.

By Friday afternoon, Britton’s family had been informed of the incident.

The bike will be taken to the police pound and the accident response unit will be roped in to assist with the probe.

A case of culpable homicide is under investigation.
