Two top mu­si­cians at recital

The Port El­iz­a­beth Mu­sic So­ci­ety has in­vited cel­list Peter Martens and pi­anist Bryan Wal­lick to a recital on Wed­nes­day, Oc­to­ber 17, in the NMU South Cam­pus Au­di­to­rium.

PE Mu­sic So­ci­ety pres­i­dent Dr Erika Bothma said she was ex­cited about the con­cert, which would start at 7.30pm.

“I tried to in­clude Peter Martens in our se­ries for quite some time, and to hear him part­nered by Dr Bryan Wal­lick will be some­thing very spe­cial,” she said.

Martens is artis­tic di­rec­tor of the award-win­ning Stel­len­bosch Univer­sity Cam­er­ata, as well as di­rec­tor of the Stel­len­bosch In­ter­na­tional Cham­ber Mu­sic Fes­ti­val and artis­tic ad- min­is­tra­tor of the de­part­ment of mu­sic.

Wal­lick is one of the great Amer­i­can vir­tu­oso pian­ists of his gen­er­a­tion. A com­mit­ted cham­ber mu­sic en­thu­si­ast, he has also re­cently taken over as the artis­tic di­rec­tor of Schalk Visser/Bryan Wal­lick Con­cert Pro­mo­tions, which hosts in­ter­na­tional mu­si­cians on tours through­out South Africa.

The fol­low­ing works are in­cluded:

● Bach’s Solo Cello Suite No 3 in C Ma­jor, BWV 1009;

● Beethoven’s Cello Sonata No 3 in A ma­jor, Op 69, and

● Rach­mani­noff’s Cello Sonata Op 19 in G Mi­nor.

Ticket prices range from R35 to R95.
