Farmer’s killers jailed for life

Two men ar­rested for the bru­tal mur­der of Alexan­dria farmer Ri­aan Scheep­ers were sen­tenced to life im­pris­on­ment by the Gra­ham­stown High Court on Fri­day.

Siphamandla Petse, 24, and Bule­lani Zozi, 21, were ar­rested shortly af­ter beat­ing – and ul­ti­mately killing – Alexan­dria cat­tle farmer Scheep­ers on his farm on his farm, Ficks, on Novem­ber 25 2017.

Scheep­ers , 62, died in Greenacres Hos­pi­tal about three weeks af­ter the at­tack.

Both men were sen­tenced to life for the mur­der, 15 years for rob­bery, five years for bur­glary with the in­tent to rob, five years for il­le­gal pos­ses­sion of a firearm and two years for il­le­gal pos­ses­sion of am­mu­ni­tion.

Judge Clive Plas­ket said the at­tack had been vi­o­lent and well-planned. “The house was un­der ob­ser­va­tion for a lengthy pe­riod of time un­til the op­por­tu­nity arose to com­mit the crime,” he said.
