Waiting for Telkom

Weekend Witness - - Opinion -

“WE have loos (but we can’t use them)”. This headline ( Weekend Witness, May 14) caught my eye and now I would like to add, “We have telephones and cannot use them, due to cable theft”.

In the six months since November 2010 our telephone line has been stolen twice and we have barely had two weeks usage during that time. Several farming businesses have been affected and there has been a dearth of social calls.

Rumour has it that over 700 households have been affected and we would like to know why Telkom, the service provider, has not come forward with an alternative plan to restore communication to the public.

Many subscribers conclude that an extra satellite tower would be the solution and then we would all enjoy the uninterrupted calls and ADSL that Telkom is promoting so vociferously.

Come on Telkom, we are waiting for an immediate solution. C. MORRIS
