Wait­ing for Telkom

“WE have loos (but we can’t use them)”. This head­line ( Week­end Wit­ness, May 14) caught my eye and now I would like to add, “We have tele­phones and can­not use them, due to cable theft”.

In the six months since Novem­ber 2010 our tele­phone line has been stolen twice and we have barely had two weeks us­age dur­ing that time. Sev­eral farm­ing busi­nesses have been af­fected and there has been a dearth of so­cial calls.

Ru­mour has it that over 700 house­holds have been af­fected and we would like to know why Telkom, the ser­vice provider, has not come for­ward with an al­ter­na­tive plan to re­store com­mu­ni­ca­tion to the pub­lic.

Many sub­scribers con­clude that an ex­tra satel­lite tower would be the so­lu­tion and then we would all en­joy the un­in­ter­rupted calls and ADSL that Telkom is pro­mot­ing so vo­cif­er­ously.

Come on Telkom, we are wait­ing for an im­me­di­ate so­lu­tion. C. MORRIS
