LETTER FROM THE MARITZBURG COLLEGE ACTING HEADMASTER

Weekend Witness - - Sport -

OVER the next eight days Maritzburg College will be a hive of activity as we celebrate and enjoy a feast of both hockey and rugby at firstteam level, as well U14 and U16 rugby. There are a number of wellestablished school festivals in the country over this holiday season and we are indeed fortunate that we have been able to attract so many top-class schools to Pietermaritzburg.

The participating schools have respect for each other because they are all very similar in ethos and culture, and our relationships go back many generations. We are thus confident that the rugby and hockey will be played without compromise.

Games will be competitive and passionate, but will be played in true schoolboy fashion. The six days are not only about rugby and hockey, but also about renewing and creating friendships.

There is a genuine camaraderie among the boys and the coaches, and it is wonderful to watch how they share in each other’s sporting tribulations and celebrations.

On behalf of the Maritzburg College community, I extend a very warm welcome to the visiting parents.

If this is your first visit to our school, I sincerely hope that you will be well hosted and that you leave with positive memories of this small part of KwaZulu-Natal.

I also take this opportunity to pay tribute to those Maritzburg College members of staff who spent hours of preparation behind the scenes to ensure that the festivals run smoothly. Their dedication to the school is truly amazing and we are indebted to you all. K. GUISE-BROWN Acting headmaster
