Third Sevens tournament at Glenwood
THE third major schools’ Sevens tournament takes place today in Durban at Glenwood. The first one was at Maritzburg College last Friday where Michaelhouse beat St Charles in the Cup final. On Wednesday, Hillcrest Villagers held the second LIV Sevens and there Glenwood beat Michaelhouse in the final.
The Glenwood Sevens replaces the @lantic Sevens, which has been held over the last number of years at Glenwood. There are 20 schools involved today, mainly from KZN, but including three schools from outside the province, Lowveld from Nelspruit, Die Anker from Brakpan and Montana from Pretoria.
The action has an early start with the first two matches at 7.30 am. The knockout stages follow after lunch. The final Cup match will take place at 4.30 pm, with the prize giving at 5 pm.
Each side consists of 12 players, 10 named for each game. The seven on the field with three reserves that can be used on a rotational basis, play for seven minutes a half. Only the Cup final is over 10 minutes a half.
Last year, the @lantic Sevens was won by Maritzburg College, but it looks as if Glenwood will win their inaugural tournament today. There will likely be some stern opposition from Kearsney and Westville, while Michaelhouse will be looking to avenge their loss on Wednesday.
The participants have been divided into four pools. The two sides at the top of each pool will play in the Cup competition. There will also be Bowl, Shield and Plate winners, from the other three schools in each pool.
