The term krypton comes from the Greek word “kryptos”, which means hidden. The element was discovered by Sir William Ramsay, a Scottish chemist, and English chemist Morris M. Travers, in 1898.
OOxygen was the atomic weight standard for the other elements until 1961 when it was replaced by carbon 12. It is the third most abundant element
found in the Sun and the Earth, and it plays a part in the carbonnitrogen cycle.
