Couple in court for forcing girl to train
BLOEMFONTEIN — The mother and stepfather of a 10yearold girl appeared in court yesterday charged with attempted murder and child neglect for allegedly forcing her to exercise beyond the point of exhaustion.
The attempted murder charge relates to an incident in October last year when the girl allegedly had to swim continuously in the Krugerdrift Dam, outside Bloemfontein, while her parents watched from the side.
When the girl was tired of swimming, she was allegedly assaulted and forced to swim again.
The child, who is described as a sports star and as doing well in school, is now in foster care.
The case against the 38yearold mother and her husband (31) was yesterday postponed in the Bloemfontein Regional Court as the investigation docket had yet to be finalised. The case was postponed to January 17.
