Give a gift that lasts a lifetime

FNB has come up with some gift ideas that may trump those that don’t last until the end of January

The bank said that buying shares on the JSE or in Krugerrands are gifts that build wealth, and they are easy to access through online investing. “It is too easy to be swept away in the festive season buying expensive gifts for family members, but there are other options that could benefit your children or loved ones far into the future,” said.Carin Meyer, chief executive officer of share investing at FNB.

The banks said it makes sense to invest in something like an exchange traded fund for your child, where a few times a year you can invest small amounts giv en by yourself, grandparents or friends. “It is a way to slowly build wealth over a long period of time,” said Meyer.

There are some reasons why Krugerrands are good gifts. The 22carat coin comes in four sizes, you are able to buy one tenth of an ounce, all the way to the full Krugerrand. A Krugerrand is the most widely known and actively traded bullion in the world.
