JO­HAN­NES­BURG — R ota­tional power cut s will be impl emented this w eek­end in a bid t o incr ease Eskom’s w ater and die sel r es­erves, the p aras­tatal said yes­ter­day.

“The po wer s ys­tem is e xtremely c on­strained t oday [yes­ter­day] and int o the w eek­end, which will nec es­si­tate the use o f open c ycle g as tur­bine s for mo st o f t oday,” E skom said in a s tate­ment.

“We an­ticip ate that a por­tion of the c apac­ity nor­mall y im­port - ed fr om Ca­hor a Bassa hy dro­elec­tric po wer s tation in Mo zam­bique will be una vail­able on S un­day as the pl ant un­der goes ur­gent pl anned maint enance.”

Rolling bl ack­outs w ere s ched­uled fr om 6 am t o 10 pm t oday and 8 am t o 10 pm t omorrow.
