Chal­leng­ing route keeps nav­i­ga­tors busy on KZN rally cham­pi­onship fi­nal

THE 2014 Natal Motorcycle and Car Club Rally Cham­pi­onship w as de­cided in the Umz­into Area on S atur­day, Novem­ber 15.

Six runs w ere s taged o ver the same 8,6 km stage, with the fifth run at dusk and the las t held in the dar k to chal­lenge the driv­ers. Ten rally cars, four quad bikes and one off ­road v ehi­cle ent ered.

The dri vers r equired clear ins truc­tions from their nav­i­ga­tor to ob­tain good times over the chal­leng­ing r oute.

The first run plac ed Chris De W it and Jar­ryde Fouche in their T oy­ota Con­quest 0,3 sec onds ahead of B rian and Ashle y Scott in their V W Polo.

In the sec ond run the or der chang ed, with Brian and Ash­ley 3,8 seconds ahead. On the thir d run De W it unf or­tu­nately caught a rock that had been dis­lodged from the bank and punc­tured the right front tyre of the C on­quest.

De Wit drove most of the s tage on the rim, los­ing more than a minute. To re­duce the time lost De Wit and Fouche then set the f astest time s on the las t thr ee runs.

The fi­nal r esult was B rian and Ashle y Scott win­ning by 1 minute 3,2 seconds, and earn­ing the Cham­pi­onship .

De Wit and Fouche placed sec­ond and Alan Hooper and Wayne West­wood third in their T oy­ota Corolla.

Brian Scott is the driv­ers cham­pion with a 5,5 point s lead on Chris De W it.

Ash­ley Scott is the nav­i­ga­tors cham­pion, 25,2 point s ahead of Wayne West­wood.
