The big CLEAN-UP

What to do in the garden now.

Woman & Home (South Africa) - - Garden Inspiration -

1 DECLUTTER Think about what you like and want to hold on to. Replace anything that’s looking dated, such as ornaments or furniture, and if plants are looking tired, get rid of them, too.

2 WASH Paved areas will benefit from a good clean with a scrubbing brush dipped into a mix of warm water and dishwashing liquid. Metal, resin and rattan furniture can be washed with warm soapy water, too, as can your pots and planters. Remove moss or debris on slabs with a jet-wash cleaner on a low setting. The Kärcher K4 Classic High Pressure Cleaner, R3 999, Makro,

is both powerful and easy to use.

3 PAINT If fences, sheds, or garden furniture are looking jaded, now’s the time for a fresh coat. Treat softwood furniture with a stain, such as Woodoc 30 Clear Low Gloss Polywax Sealer, R238 for 1ℓ, Builders Warehouse. Like pops of colour? Try Dulux Gloss Enamel Azure Blue, R181/ℓ, Builders Warehouse; while Dulux Gloss Enamel Whisper Grey, R439 for 5ℓ, The Paint Place, is good for a more muted palette. 4 FEED Keep your evergreens lush with a spring feed. Try Kirchhoffs Margaret Roberts Organic Supercharger, R81,71 for 500ml, gardengoods.co.za

5 MOW Set the blades high for the first cut. If you dread this task, robotic mowers are the next big thing. The Husqvarna Automower 105, from R18 999, husqvarna.com, can be set to cut grass while you sleep! >>
