RAISE THE BARRE
Bit of a klutz? Balance it out on pointe. Research in the Journal of Neurophysiology found that ballet training enables the nervous system to boost the coordination, balance and range of motion in a dancer. Try these moves:
Turnout Put hands on a chair, feet in a narrow V, left leg behind and toe at five o’clock. Slowly lift leg up and down a few centimetres for 30 seconds. Repeat with faster, smaller moves. Swap legs.
High V Stand next to a chair, feet in a narrow V. Rise onto the balls of your feet, bend your knees and bring your bum down. Slowly move down and up a couple of centimetres for 30 seconds. Repeat, with smaller, faster movements.
