This just in: eat­ing a diet high in veg­gies, beans, fruits, olive oil, fish and whole grains – aka the Mediterranean diet – may be good for your brain as well as your bod. We know from re­search that it slashes heart dis­ease and stroke risk, but now a study from the Univer­sity of Ed­in­burgh has re­vealed that the more closely peo­ple ad­hered to a Med-style diet over the years, the less their brains shrank, which is as­so­ci­ated with bet­ter mem­ory. Plus, an­other small study in the jour­nal BMC Medicine found that the diet could sig­nif­i­cantly lower de­pres­sion symp­toms. Pass the olives!
