AI-|AIS-/RICHTERSVELD NATIONAL PARK
Tucked into the great bend of the Orange River is the Richtersveld, a barren wilderness interrupted by equally barren and contorted mountain ranges. This is the northern edge of Namaqualand, with its outstanding range of small reptiles, birds and mammals and a great variety of plant life (some species are found nowhere else). A 4x4 is best if you’re visiting the park, but vehicles with high ground clearances can reach most spots. There is no specific route that can be booked in advance. Once inside the park, camping is the only accommodation option, but there are five camps.
