Choco­late bread pud­ding

BREAD

1½-2 French loaves, cut into

1 cm thick slices

1 can (385 g) apri­cot jam CUS­TARD

500 ml (2 c) milk

4 eggs

100 ml sugar ex­tra homemade or bought cus­tard or cream to serve

Grease the bot­tom and sides of a flat-bot­tom cast-iron pot.

1 Bread Spread each slice of bread on one or both sides with the jam and ar­range in lay­ers in the pot.

2 Cus­tard Whisk the milk, eggs and sugar to­gether un­til the sugar is dis­solved and pour over the bread.

3 Cover the pot with the lid and place over hot coals. Pack a few coals on the lid and bake for about 40 min­utes or un­til cooked and the milk cus­tard has set. Serve hot with cus­tard or cream. INEKE AND JOHNNY (AS SEEN IN KOM ONS BRAAI EPISODE 9 ON VIA)
