Get cre­ative with hot dog ac­com­pa­ni­ments and trans­form it into a gourmet meal.

CARAMELISED

ONIONS oil

4 onions, sliced

3 gar­lic cloves, crushed 7 ml (1½ t) dried thyme 30 ml (2 T) bal­samic vine­gar or red wine

30 ml (2 T) Di­jon

mus­tard

honey and/or brown

sugar to taste

HOT DOGS

4 cheese bread rolls,

halved

400 g boere­wors hand­ful rocket

30 g Gruyère cheese or ma­ture Ched­dar cheese shav­ings

1 Caramelised onions Heat a lit­tle oil and fry the onions un­til soft. Add the gar­lic and thyme and stir-fry un­til fra­grant.

2 Add the re­main­ing in­gre­di­ents, re­duce the heat and cook for 30 min­utes or un­til caramelised.

3 Hot dogs Toast the rolls if de­sired and braai the sausage over the coals un­til done.

4 Put a few rocket leaves in each roll, place the sausages on top and pile a gen­er­ous spoon­ful of the caramelised onions on the sausages. Fin­ish with cheese shav­ings.
