BEEF IN A ROASTING BAG WITH ONIONS
SERVES 4 Preparation time: 10 min Cooking time: 45 min
Preheat the oven to 180 ° C. 1 Put the stewing beef in a mixing bowl, season with pepper and sprinkle the brown onion soup powder
750 g stewing beef freshly ground pepper 1 packet ( 45 g) brown onion soup powder 5 ml ( 1 t) cake flour 6- 8 baby onions, peeled 4 garlic cloves, crushed few sprigs of fresh thyme over. Mix well. 2 Spoon the flour into a large roasting bag, close the bag and shake well. Put the bag on a baking sheet. Open it and add the onions, garlic and thyme, spreading the ingredients evenly. 3 Arrange the beef on top of the onions in the bag and fasten according to the packet instructions. 4 Bake for 45 minutes or until the meat is tender. Serve with blanched green beans, if preferred.
Leave out the soup powder and roll the meat in a mixture of 60 ml ( ¼ c) cake flour, 15 ml ( 1 T) braai spices and 15 ml ( 1 T) dried mixed herbs.
