Propellant

A substance that causes an object to move forward or change direction.

Solid fuel

Solid material used as propellant, such as the gunpowder in older rockets. Modern spacecraft use a variety of sophisticated chemicals in powder form.

Fuel that is not solid. Our cars use liquid fuel in the form of petrol and large rockets often use liquid hydrogen burned with liquid oxygen.
