HEATHER TOM (KATIE LOGAN)

-

This five-time Emmy winner holds the record as the only actor in US TV history to win an Emmy award in all three performer categories: younger, supporting and lead actress. She’ also the most Emmy awardnominated actress under the age of 40, with 17 nods and five wins – three for The Bold and two for The Young And The Restless. Heather (41) shares her fave moments and talks about motherhood. What do you love about the show? So many things. I love the constant work and I love that I’ve been playing a character for a long time. She’s dynamic – she started in one place and evolved into something different, which is exciting.

These characters take on lives of their own because they have histories and they have families and we see them at their most intimate, and their best and worst. What do you love about Katie? That she’s able to change. She learns from her mistakes and she’s willing to admit it. She has a strong moral code that dictates a lot of what she does – but she’s no angel. Anything you hate about her? That she’s so dogmatic! I’d like to see her loosen up a bit. But overall I like playing a character who tries to do the right thing. I like it most when she fails though, because that’s so human – we all fail sometimes.” List a few of your favourite scenes. The postpartum depression storyline is one. There’s still a lot of stigma surrounding it. Women aren’t really willing to come forward and say, “Hey, you know I suffered from this.” I know I did. I liked that Katie wasn’t told to just forget about it and get on with it. So motherhood really changed your life? Oh my gosh, yes! There’s no way you can describe how a child affects you. You think you know what’s going to happen and then it’s like you have to throw everything out the window.

Zane [her four-year-old son with actor James Achor] is amazing. I know everyone says that about their children but he truly is.

Three was a challenging age ‒ I won’t lie ‒ but now suddenly it’s just like he has opinions and he likes to be in charge.

He told me the other day he was going to be a director. He said, “Okay Mom, action!” I guess he’s been on the Bold set too much.
