Take care

Saood Mota, owner of Beard Boys barbershop and men’s grooming products, shares his tips on how to take care of your beard.

The way your beard hair grows depends on genetics, so if your father or grandfather didn’t have much facial hair, it’s highly likely you won’t either. If you have patchy growth, try including more protein in your diet. If that makes no difference, just shave it off – clean-shaven is better than a patchy beard. Beard products help maintain healthy hair – they won’t make hair grow where it doesn’t occur naturally. But if you have stubble, beard oils can encourage hair growth. Exfoliate your skin before you shave to minimise irritation and ingrown hairs. Don’t use regular soap when you shave because it could irritate your skin. Rather use shaving creams or shaving soaps that lubricate, increase glide and protect against razor burn.
