Five titles in the running for the Golden Man Booker Prize

YOU (South Africa) - - CONTENTS - COMPILED BY JANE VORSTER

THERE was great excitement when the shortlist for the Golden Man Booker Prize was announced recently. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the prestigious prize a panel of judges selected five novels from its 51 previous winners – one from each decade – to vie for the grand honour.

Salman Rushdie won the 40th anniversary award in 2008 for Midnight’s Children, beating a field of six which included JM Coetzee’s Disgrace. Now book fanatics are waiting to see who’ll win the latest award.

Here are the titles in the running.

To vote for your favourite, go to www. themanbooker prize.com/vote before 25 June. The winner will be announced on 8 July.
