Romantic drama. If have lots of time this melancholy coming-of-age drama – based on André Aciman’s novel – is for you. It follows the relationship between 17-year-old Elio (Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet) and his dad’s 24-yearold assistant, Oliver (Armie Hammer).

The film’s been nominated for at least 210 awards and won an Oscar for best adapted screenplay, so you’d expect something marvellous, but viewers with high expectations will probably be disappointed.

It’s sensual at times but profoundly slow and although the movie has been lauded for making strides for representation of same-sex relationships in mainstream cinema, ultimately it’s just another story of first love and heartbreak. – CHEZ POOL 2017. 127 MIN. 16DLNS.
