YOU (South Africa) - - YOU LEISURE -

Thriller. After killing her crippled horse with a knife, Amanda (Ready Player One’s Olivia Cooke), a high school learner from a wealthy family, is charged with animal cruelty.

Her mother (Kaili Vernoff) arranges for her to have tutoring sessions with the more academically inclined Lily (Anya Taylor-Joy from Split). As the two become friends Lily reveals she hates her abusive stepfather (Paul Sparks) and the two concoct a plan to blackmail a drug dealer (Anton Yelchin) into murdering him . . .

Cooke and Taylor-Joy are excellent as damaged teenagers who become friends despite their differences.

Director Cory Finley’s taut debut maintains a sense of menace that keeps you watching, but sensitive viewers might find this dark noir disturbing. – WILLEM MÖLLER 2017. 90 MIN. 16DLV. ALSO OUT ON DVD.
