Antoinette likes travelling and has visited many countries. Her husband, Johan, is a land surveyor and does a lot of work elsewhere in Africa. She often accompanies him and has cooked in the most isolated places, with minimal facilities at her disposal. “The further north you go in Africa, the scarcer gas becomes, and 90 percent of the time I had to cook the food either on a Zambian “stoefie” (a bucket with holes, in which a fire is lit) or on an open fire,” she says.
