Help fill Santa’s boxes
The Santa Shoebox Project will be opening pledges a month earlier, on 1 August, to ensure more needy children are provided with a gift for Christmas. This charity has been going for 12 years and has touched the lives of more than 700 000 underprivileged children throughout South Africa and Namibia. They’re hoping to get to 115 000 shoeboxes this year. If you’re keen to become involved, go to www.santashoebox.org.za to register (or update) your profile and make your pledge. Then you put your shoebox together, with all-new things (toothbrush, toothpaste, facecloth, soap, toy, outfit, school supplies, sweets plus the QR code you get when you pledge your box) and drop it off at one of the distribution points countrywide. If you don’t have the time to do the shopping or live too far from the distribution points, you can also give a virtual box – there are 4 000 of these available.
