HELLP STANDS FOR

-

H – Haemolysis: This refers to the breakdown of red blood cells. When you’re suffering from haemolysis, your red blood cells break down too soon, which may result in low red blood cell levels and can lead to anaemia, which is when the blood doesn’t carry enough oxygen to the rest of your body. EL – Elevated liver enzymes: this is an indication that your liver isn’t working properly. Inflamed or injured liver cells leak high amounts of certain chemicals, including enzymes, into your blood. LP – Low platelets: platelets help with blood clotting. When your platelets are low, you’re at risk of excessive bleeding.
