March ship­ping sta­tis­tics for Richards Bay port

TO­TAL cargo han­dled at the Port of Richards Bay dur­ing March amounted to more than nine mil­lion tonnes, the bulk of which was shipped from our shores.

To­tal bulk cargo han­dled was 8 656 197 tonnes, with 8 109 932 shipped and

546 265 tonnes land­ing.

Break­bulk cargo han­dled at the Port of Richards Bay to­talled 445 023.

Ex­pressed in 6m units (twenty-foot equiv­a­lents or TEUs), 117 con­tain­ers landed on our shores, 66 of which were full and 51 empty.

To­tal con­tain­ers shipped from Richards Bay were 396.

This made a grand to­tal of 513 con­tain­ers han­dled last month.

Eleven gen­eral cargo ves­sels ar­rived in Richards Bay at a to­tal ton­nage of 275 307 tonnes.

To­tal bulk ves­sels were 114 at a gross ton­nage of 4 953 138.

Four­teen tankers were han­dled, of which 11 were oil tankers, one chem­i­cal and two LPG tankers.
