A memorial service was held in Durban on Thursday in remembrance of Richard Gumede and Mandla Gumede

It was attended by various dignitaries, including

Acting MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Mxolisi Kaunda.

‘We share in your pain and unimaginable personal loss,’ Kaunda told the families of the deceased.

He said the government would help the families access psychosocial services.

‘I have also learned that Gumede was an experienced and decorated worker, who for the past eight years has been winning awards for his stellar work and upholding high safety standards.

Kaunda said the KZN

Sharks Board should consider introducing an award named after Gumede to honour his legacy.
