High school teacher ar­rested for sex­ual mis­con­duct

KWAMBONAMBI po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing a num­ber of sex­ual mis­con­duct and rape cases fol­low­ing the ar­rest of a high school teacher. Ac­cord­ing to re­ports, the male teacher and head of depart­ment at Nton­gande High School was re­cently ar­rested af­ter a stu­dent teacher came for­ward al­leg­ing he had sex­u­ally as­saulted and raped her in the first term. King Cetshwayo Dis­trict Di­rec­tor for the Depart­ment of Ed­u­ca­tion, David Chonco, con­firmed al­le­ga­tions that a teacher had been sleep­ing with learn­ers and war­ranted a thor­ough in­ves­ti­ga­tion. ‘The ini­tial in­ci­dent re­lated to a stu­dent teacher, how­ever a num­ber of other learn­ers have since come for­ward. ‘The al­le­ga­tions are that the teacher has been sleep­ing with learn­ers and this has been go­ing on for quite some time. ‘The cir­cuit man­ager has been in­volved in the in­ves­ti­ga­tion to de­ter­mine how many stu­dents have been af­fected. ‘The mat­ter has also been handed over to the Labour Depart­ment who will fur­ther in­ves­ti­gate. ‘We en­cour­age all learn­ers who have been af­fected to come for­ward with in­for­ma­tion.’ While the teacher has been ar­rested and taken into cus­tody, Chonco said the depart­ment would move fast to im­ple­ment a pre­cau­tion­ary sus­pen­sion.
