Hefty reward for heirlooms

Zululand Observer - Monday - - ZO NEWS - Conelia Harry

A RICHARDS Bay couple have lost all their household and personal belongings, including prized family heirlooms and memorabilia, after a series of burglaries.

Pensioners, Billy (72) and Ruby (68) Chung of Arboretum were in Australia for a month-long visit during which their house was apparently burgled several times and cleaned out of all valuables.

Alas, last Saturday, on the night of their return, the burglars struck again as they slept after their journey.

The couple had arrived home and unpacked new items and the gifts they purchased while on holiday, among which were a new iphone, ipad and the wife’s sneakers, which had special medically-designed inside support.

On the list of stolen items are special family heirlooms: a 0.9 carat diamond ring passed down from Ruby’s mother and a woman’s Rolex watch she received 40 years ago on her wedding day.

All their clothes and household items, including a 65-inch television, electrical appliances, tools, machinery, brand and designer shoes were taken.

‘We left at the end of July to Australia for our daughter’s wedding and in the middle of August our neighbours informed us our house had been burgled.

‘They had seen a bakkie and trailer leave our home and reported the matter to the police. However, the criminals had taken the set of keys and remotes that were in the house and continued to visit the premises.

‘We have lost everything and only have the shoes on our feet.

‘Among the clothing items there is a unique Chinese outfit that has a dragon embroidered on it, in a special metal case.

‘Even the battery from our vehicle parked inside the garage was stolen,’ said Chung.

‘Also, our stolen laptop and cellphones contain all our family pictures.

‘We are offering a reward for every item that was stolen, especially my wife’s jewelery and our precious memorabilia.’

Despite the locks having been changed, the brazen criminals returned again and the couple are living with a friend until they find a way forward.

Anyone with information can contact Billy on 082 4947758.
